“Great design is a multi-layered relationship between human life and its environment.” Recognizing the concerted efforts of all the elements that form an integral and an interdependent part of India’s design evolution, Nine.Squares was launched as an annual design initiative and movement focused towards creating a platform for the design fraternity to interact with artisans and craftsmen. To celebrate the Pink City as the ‘World Craft City’, a three day long, unique design show was held in the field of architecture, interiors, product and lighting design from 1st to 3rd April 2016 at Hotel Diggi Palace in Jaipur. The design show encouraged designers and end users to witness, appreciate, learn and extensively use products with distinct flavor of artisanal crafts. Supported by the Indian Institute of Architects, Rajasthan Chapter, ‘Nine.Squares’ is an initiative and event, designed and conceptualized by Architect Ritu Khandelwal in coordination with Architect SagunaWadhwa Singh, organised by Shalini Agarwal.
Nine.Squares is an initiative, a provocative thought and an event, to act as a catalyst of concepts and practice. It positions itself in the space design sector promoting all initiatives to bridge the gap between the artisans and design professionals practicing in this field. The endeavor is to impact individuals, groups, society and the environment, by way of creating interactive opportunities and design collaborative activities. Nine.Squares stands for the appreciation and celebration of the rich art and craft wealth of our country, relevant to the field of spatial design. It is a provocation to reinvent and reinstate challenged and dying visual art and craft forms in the modern day context.
Our Pillar of Strength: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) is the National body of Architects in the country. Established in 1917, the institute today has more than 20,000 members and plays a major role in promoting the profession of architecture by organizing and uniting the Architects of India to promote aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of the profession both in Practice and in Education. IIA Rajasthan Chapter extended their full support for Nine.Squares Design Show celebrating art and craft, architecture and design practices. We share our appreciation and gratitude with the esteemed members of the Indian Institute of Architects.
